Check Mate
Happy Birthday to my DAD! Growing I did two things with my father, bake and play chess. We would play chess after dinner each night. He also made it a thing to never let me win. If I won, it was because I genuinely beat him. Not so fun as a kid but as an adult I get what he was trying to teach me. For his birthday this year, I created a chess board cake. One with pieces we could actually play with. So the match began between my 11 year old nephew and my father. Did I mention my nephew is on the chess club at school?! As the rest of us impatiently waited, they enjoyed a great game of chess. Eating each pawn or rook they took along the way. It was so nice to such a big smile on this sweet mans face.
